Overview:

Northern Frequencies is a three-day music festival featuring an all-Canadian lineup of musicians. Adapting to a new Canadian city each year, Northern Frequencies takes on a venue-hopping approach, paving the way for exploration and adventure, immersing festival goers in the city’s culture and offering a glimpse into what shapes the local music scene. With a non-conforming spirit, Northern Frequencies’ genre-fluid approach seeks to spotlight independent, underground, and emerging artists of any kind within its host city. Inspired by the community-driven spirit of grassroots festivals, Northern Frequencies hopes to bring people together, whether local or abroad, and foster an atmosphere that is welcoming, energizing, filled with discovery, and ever-evolving.

Tonally, the festival embraces a bold and energetic visual language to reflect its dynamic and offbeat nature—eschewing traditional Canadiana symbols in favour of a feeling of movement, fluidity and excitement. Easily adaptable across various applications, the type-forward Northern Frequencies identity features a custom typeface (inspired by soundwaves), alongside abstracted symbols and forms creating a voice that is distinct and fresh.
